Termite proofing is extremely important for new structures. Moreover, it is less expensive and more effective when done pre-construction compared to post construction treatments. Wise and savvy architects always specify pre-treatment, knowledgeable builders include it in every structure they erect, and prospective buyers should demand it for any new house they buy or build.
Termite proofing Pre-treatment is far better than post treatment. Post treatment (after you get termites) is actually a “spot” treatment. You can drill a thousand holes, but there will still be places you can’t reach, no matter how hard the exterminator tries. With a proper termite proofing pre-treatment, the soil next to the foundations is treated with a termiticide and is sealed in after the foundations are in place.
Properly treated structures are sometimes able to resist termites for a much longer period of time, and termiticides applied during construction are generally applied to areas that are unavailable after construction is complete. This one fact would tend to make pre-treatments preferable to post treatments.
Termite proofing is found in all structures build by human beings .They live underneath the soil and comes up in search of food. Wood is their favorite food. Termite damages all objects other than made-up of metal i.e. furniture ,fixture, carpets, currency, documents, cloths etc.
METHODS OF TERMITE PROOFING
HORIZONTAL SURFACE TREATMENT
One of the most ideal methods of termite proofing is preparing and applying pesticide through pressure spraying horizontally. You can spray the pesticide to the foundation bases, sub slab plinth area (slab on grade) before casting the concrete slab and after the compaction of soil or gravel.
EXTERNAL TRENCH TREATMENT
A trench is to be excavated around the structural foundation of the house. Then the termicide is applied through pressure spraying on to the trench. Construction is then continued.
VERTICAL SURFACE TREATMENT
The soil surrounding the building and the external walls from the basement to the ground level can be treated as a vertical barrier. You can apply termicide by means of spraying, rodding and inserting to the linear surface from the boundary wall of the filled soil.
WHERE THE WATER TABLE IS HIGH
If the water table is high, the treatment shall be applied on top of the concrete surface and not on the compacted soil. This chemical barrier will not be in contact with the existing high water table. This will prevent the chemical from entering percolating into the water.
TERMITE SOIL TREATMENT
The basic purpose of treating soil with chemicals along the building is to interrupt the path of termites that root through their colony in the soil. Some chemicals are insoluble in water and hence they are not leached out by the subsoil water. The application of chemicals like Term solve B PRO, Century ply Terramite TC, Biflex TC, Termex, etc. serve as a chemical barrier between the building and the ground. This method has proven to be one of the most effective methods of termite proofing.
